Greetings:

As you are aware, it has been a very exciting week for Public Health in the United States. On Friday (April 24), we learned about a case of “Swine Flu” that was taxing Mexico’s Public Health infrastructure. On Monday (April 27), the Public Health Preparedness Team for Nobles-Rock Community Health Services (NRCHS) had begun conversations with Emergency Managers. By early Tuesday (April 28), we were informed there was a probable case of the H1N1 Influenza (formerly known as Swine Flu) case in Minnesota.

On Tuesday, April 28th, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) started having daily conference calls with Local Public Health agencies across the state. The message we are receiving is that this influenza outbreak is very similar to the seasonal influenza A cases we see every year, however, this is a new strain of the virus and that is why it is getting so much attention.
